New Year's Eve

In Norway it is common for the kids to dress up and go house to house singing for candy and treats.  This tradition makes up for the  Halloween experience that Ava and Karsten missed out on this year.  At first neither of them were sold on the idea of going around the neighborhood. Somehow saying Trick or Treat seemed easier than having to sing on the spot.  John and I thought that they would have fun and encouraged them to think of a few Norwegian songs they were comfortable singing.  We practiced and got them excited to go and try it, but they both didn't want to actually sing.  Then came the first few rings of our doorbell, standing in front of us were Norwegian children, dressed in festive clothing singing, We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, in their accented/broken English.  Once Ava realized that you could sing in English and not Norwegian, she said to Karsten, " Oh we have TOTALLY got this!  We are the best English singers on the block!"  And off they went with John, to sing in their native tongue and collect goodies along the way.
