This was the first time the kids and I participated in May 17th in Norway and what an experience it was! Quite different from the Sons of Norway organized gathering we attended with 30+ other Scandinavians in Atlanta. It was so fun to see the whole community of Askoy turn out for the festivities. Everyone gathered at the school, most dressed in their bunads, the traditional Norwegian dress. (Commented to one of my friends that these native costumes are so beautiful, wishing we had something like this in the States and the only thing I can think of that would serve as "our traditional dress" on Independence Day would be an Old Navy tee and shorts!) We all went for a long parade through the neighborhoods and circled back to the school for games and other events. It was such a fun day, hi-ja Norge!
