These are not words that you want to hear at 9pm, as you are standing in the line to board an international flight with two toddlers. We were supposed to leave for Norway on the night of December 18th. It was my hope that a 9:30 pm flight would result in our kids sleeping a good portion of the first leg to Amsterdam. We checked our bags that night, went and had dinner, sat at our gate, and then as we were in line ready to board; came this news: "If Amsterdam is not your final destination, you are not getting on this flight and will need to rebook." What!? Because of all the snow in Europe, flights were not getting out and they didn't want any more passengers stuck at that airport. I would later come to realize it was much better to be stuck in Atlanta than on the floor of a foreign airport for days on end. We got a hotel near the airport that night in hopes of getting out the next morning. It ended up there wasn't an opening for three days. And so, we returned home--went to breakfast at IHOP, let the kids open a few presents, had some extra down days and did finally get out on Tuesday the 21st. Thank goodness!

As you said, in retrospect, in sptie of the inconvenience and stress of your flight being delayed for days, it was so much better to be at home, than stranded in the Amsterdam airport! That would NOT have been fun for any of you. Breakfast at IHOP...nice consolation prize! YUMMY!

My goodness...that's a HUGE pancake for a little boy! Did you and John help him eat it?
