Hiking--Two Year Old Style

Last weekend we went for a hike and found that Ava is becoming more difficult to keep in a pack. She continually wants to get down and walk on her own, but quickly realizes that it is tiring and then either wants back in or to be held. (Walking with a toddler in your arms is less than ideal.) This up and down and frustration with the situation tested both John and my patience...such is the way with our daughter these days. She is desperate to find her independence and is sometimes less than charming in doing so. Karsten for his part continues to the "easy going one." Ava was the same way when she was his age--unfortunately the current contrast of a screaming nearly--two year old and a happy smiling baby is evident these days.

Despite the drought--it was lush green.

Skipping down the trail.

Not what this looks like--
she's searching for bugs!
We all grew tired of waiting on Ava to
find bugs, Karsten chose to fall asleep.

Are the leaves already starting to turn where you hiked? The leaves on the trail looked reddish? Ava must have had a great time, and of course she would prefer to run on the path than be in the backpack. Does Karsten still fit in the baby Bjorn carrier? He is probably ready to "graduate" to a backpack carrier also. That looks like you had a nice outing with the family.

Mom

P.S. - Just an afterthought...you think a 2 year old tests your patience? Just wait till she is 15 or 16 and trying to assert her independence! That will truly try your patience. (this is shared with the wisdom of my personal experience with my own children!)
