Berry Hunt

In a recent episode of Dora the Explorer (one of Ava's current favorite shows), Dora goes on a berry hunt and sings the song- "Going on a berry hunt, gonna get some juicy ones, we're not afraid, it's a beautiful day!" Last week we were able to go on our own berry hunt at Washington Farms, about 20 mins. from our home and the whole time we were strawberry picking Ava chanted the song from Dora. The strawberries were indeed juicy and the kids ate as many, if not more than they actually put in our bucket. They unfortunately were only interested in picking for about the first ten minutes, leaving me to find the rest of the berries by myself. It was a fun day, but reminded me how lucky I am not to be a farmer's wife, having to tend the fields. That job would be a lot of work, particularly with an almost three and one year old with you. The strawberries themselves were so fresh and free of pesticides, that they did not keep too long. So we ate some, froze some, and I made a batch of preserves--Rather domestic if I do say so myself. The next growing season is later in summer, and will be blueberries. In the Fall there are pumpkins and hay rides, we will be sure to return to Washington Farms throughout the year for a variety of produce.

Beautiful strawberries, and I'm sure they were delicious. What fun for the children. Was this before Eden came to visit?
