John wanted nothing to do with a big party for his 40th birthday--despite how much I would have loved to do a bash, I decided to respect his wishes and keep things incredibly low key. Made on of his favorite meals, had a cake with our family and promised to do something special at a later date. I am now writing this post three and a half months later and we still haven't done anything note worthy. Birthdays are not nearly as special when you are a grownup. Happy Birthday, John/Pappa--we love you so very much! xoxo

In spite of being depressed about turning 40, John looks pretty good for an "old" guy! (And once you're "over the hill", the next birthdays aren't nearly as difficult to swallow.) You got to travel to Norway for Christmas, and that was certainly special, even if it wasn't to celebrate John's birthday.
Love,
Mom
