On 2/22 Karsten turned 2. It had the makings to be a lottery winning kind of day with those numbers, but as the saying goes "you've got to play to win." And so, no big jackpots to report of here. The actual day of his birthday was also my first day of work; I wasn't with him to celebrate on the day, but he took homemade cupcakes to school and shared this day with his buddies. As a family we did a little celebration the night before: ordered in Chinese, opened presents and ate a few of the cupcakes that weren't needed in the school count. It is hard for me to believe that he is already two. I feel like his years have gone even more quickly than Ava's, perhaps because with two toddlers much of life is a bit of a blur. In the past few months Karsten has really come into his personality and is talking SO much more. He continues to be our easy going, sweet natured child. But he is also now getting a real sense of humor, as well as some crazy musical abilities. I think he really has a great ear for music--he can listen to a song once and often sing back many of the words, but always has the tune and a great sense of pitch. We'll continue to foster this love and see where it takes him in the future. For today, we cherish every moment that we have had with this precious boy and pray for many more happy and healthy years to come. Happy Birthday, Karsten-- you are loved. xo

Karsten obviously enjoyed his birthday cupcakes! Such a big boy already... so apparently he will be your little musician. Isn't it interesting how children's talents and interests are displayed at such an early age? Probably takes after Pappa with the music.
Love to all,
Mom
